Regulating Autonomous Agents Facing Conflicting Objectives: A Command and Control Example
نویسندگان
چکیده
UK military commanders have a degree of devolved decision authority delegated from command and control (C2) regulators, and they are trained and expected to act rationally and accountably. Therefore from a Bayesian perspective they should be subjective expected utility maximizers. In fact they largely appear to be so. However when current tactical objectives conict with broader campaign objective there is a strong risk that elded commanders will lose rationality and coherence. By systematically analysing the geometry of their expected utilities, arising from a utility function with two attributes, we demonstrate in this paper that even when a remote C2 regulator can predict only the likely broad shape of her agentsmarginal utility functions it is still often possible for her to identify robustly those settings where the commander is at risk of making inappropriate decisions.

SkyNET: A 3G-Enabled Mobile Attack Drone and Stealth Botmaster
SkyNET is a stealth network that connects hosts to a botmaster through a mobile drone. The network is comprised of machines on home Wi-Fi networks in a proximal urban area, and one or more autonomous attack drones. The SkyNET is used by a botmaster to command their botnet(s) without using the Internet. The drones are programmed to scour an urban area and compromise wireless networks. Once compr...
متن کاملDevolving command decisions in complex operations
In contemporary military endeavours, Command and Control (C2) arrangements generally aim to ensure an appropriate regulation of command-decision autonomy such that decision makers are able to act in a way that is consistent with the overall set of commanders’ intents and according to the nature of the unfolding situation. This can be a challenge, especially in situations with increasing degrees...
متن کاملDesign and Development of Command and Control System for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
Command and control for AUVs has been an area of active research over the past years. Inspired by the command structure in real ships and submarines, we have developed a command and control system which operates through the interaction of multiple software agents. The software agents take on roles such as Captain, Executive Officer, Navigator, Pilot, etc. to achieve specified missions. The comm...
متن کاملCommand and Control Architecture Using KEEL Technology for Loosely Coupled Systems
Loosely coupled system architectures have been suggested to respond to systems that can degrade without completely shutting down when segments of the system become disabled. This has led to research in autonomous and semi-autonomous system behaviors. There has been considerable research in the development of cooperative agent techniques based on belief networks and social paradigms. This presen...
متن کاملCrowds by Example
We present an example-based crowd simulation technique. Most crowd simulation techniques assume that the behavior exhibited by each person in the crowd can be defined by a restricted set of rules. This assumption limits the behavioral complexity of the simulated agents. By learning from real-world examples, our autonomous agents display complex natural behaviors that are often missing in crowd ...
